ION BOND TiCN has superior performance over other TiCN coatings in
many metal cutting and stamping applications. The key to ION BOND TiCNs coating
performance is its multi-layer structure consisting of alternating layers of TiN and TiCN.
The multi-layer structure provides good toughness and resistance to wear and shock.
ION BOND TiCN provides higher hardness and lower coefficient of
friction than titanium nitride (TiN). However, it is not a replacement for all TiN
applications. ION BOND TiCN is recommended for cutting, punching and wear applications
where temperatures and generated.

provide excellent wear resistance on metal cutting tools and punches. The multi-layer
structure of ION BOND TiCN provides good adhesion, toughness and resistance to chipping.
ION BOND TiCN is the perfect coating for mechanically stressed cutting edges in both
continuous and interrupted cutting operations.
ION BOND TiCN performs well cutting alloy steels, stainless steels
and in high speed cutting where moderate temperatures are generated at the cutting edge.
Successful applications include end mills, drills, reamers, taps, hops, broaches, and
indexable carbide inserts. ION BOND TiCN also performs well on punches, trim dies,
blanking dies, and shearing blades where its high hardness prevents edge rounding.
Higher Quality and Productivity
The good surface finish and low coefficient of friction of ION BOND TiCN provide excellent
surface quality on machined and punched components. ION BOND TiCN also improves
productivity through higher speeds and feeds when cutting and faster press speeds when
punching.
